Beyond, Beyond Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
It seems to me that in many traditions there are not many hymns that are simply about God, or the mystery of the godhead. This is a hymn about finding God beyond mere physicality, instead in consciousness, in presence and in faith. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.

'Come, Ye Disconsolate' can be used for many occasions. It is a hymn that is meant to comfort the grieving, bring solace to mourners, and hope and uplifting thought to anyone who is struggling. This song will bring blessing and comfort to many types of services and occasions, always with the motive to comfort. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.
King of Glory, King of Peace Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
'King of Glory, King of Peace' has language that might be considered by some to be somewhat archaic, but the simplicity and directness of the sentiments are beautifully and effectively expressed. It is, in fact, quite childlike and, with a little help, accessible to children. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.
Lead Kindly Light Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
'Lead Kindly Light' is a poem that I have found to be important in my life, especially at the time when I really did not know what God wanted me to do. This will always be my prayer – to follow the light. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.
Love Divine All Love's Excelling Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
'Love Divine All Love's Excelling' has the flavor of a nineteenth century popular song. This hymn is about the healing effect of Love. “Finish, then, Thy new creation; Pure and spotless may we be; Let us see Thy great salvation Perfectly restored in Thee.” Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.
My God And King Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
'My God and King' is a very spiritual hymn praising God, and if you should choose, in praise of Jesus Christ. It would be lovely to have it sung in harmony by the choir, but the congregation would have a lot of fun with it too. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.
Now The Day Is Over Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
'Now the Day is Over' fills the need for a conclusion to a vespers-type service or any evening activity. It is a bedtime prayer, and while it is intensely personal, it also reaches out to others and gives comfort and reassurance. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.
Submission Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
Herbert's 'Submission' can be understood on several levels. It can reference one's place in society or it can address any conflict that makes us wrestle with our relationship to God. “Submission” assures us that He will give us the means of resolution and the grace to embrace his will. “When the storms are o’er us And dark clouds before us, Then its light directeth and our way protecteth. Who can tell the pleasure, Who can count the treasure, By the word imparted to the simple-hearted?” This is a hymn of the power of God's word and how it protects us. Wedding Day Buy Sheet Music More Details View Lyrics Listen to Sample
John Keble's lyric for 'Wedding Day,' unlike most wedding songs, has a theological tone with scriptural references. The music is chromatic and, I feel, therefore romantic -- not romantic in the way other wedding songs are -- but unconsciously so. Copyright 2008 by James Collignon.

BIOGRAPHY

A special interest of his over the years was the ecumenical movement. He turned to music as a means of promoting church unity and interfaith communion. James began writing new tunes as settings for great traditional texts. Some of these lyrics may be new to many spiritual seekers, and other lyrics will be very familiar. James' intention was not to supplant anything that was worthy. Believers can now hear old and familiar hymns with new and appealing melodies, as if hearing them for the first time. Some are appropriate for congregational singing, others for choral or solo singers.

QUOTES

"Your idea of using older texts is a marvelous one, and your musical settings are truly impressive... The musicality of the settings plus the historical interest of the texts should prove most attractive." --Paul Weston
