Last week’s song dealt with the loneliness of separation, and this week further delves into that theme with Peter Link’s sweetly sung and gently orchestrated Leaving You, which conveys the acute emotions that arise just after we have parted from those people and places that we hold so dearly in our hearts. The song is off his album Thru Me, a compilation of favorite songs written over the last twenty years. Taken from both his work in the theater and from his own personal experience, the styles range from theatrical to pop. A special note on this song from Peter:
“I started writing this song many years ago on the airplane flying back to the States leaving Palermo, Italy after a short visit … leaving my newlywed wife behind performing at the Palermo Opera. We were half-way through a 3 month separation and it was a very tough parting. The song seemed an appropriate Inspirational Song Of The Week, for me anyway, since Julia and I are again towards the end of another such parting while she’s performing in a musical in California for a couple of months. Though this particular parting has been somewhat easier, the song still resonates.”
