Remnants – Part 9

Here’s a song that experiences a moment we’ve all shared many times before, during, or after church, sitting in the quiet of God’s presence, applying what we’ve learned, struggling with life, seeking a solution … and then, there it is, written on the wall before us.

When truth is so true, so well said, so clear that it warrants being written upon a wall for all to see, to study, and to remember, it achieves a permanency. It lives on through the ages.

I always thought it interesting that graffiti is so hard to read. It’s usually someone’s name—someone desperate to be remembered. Or sometimes it’s a slander. Or sometimes a complaint. But the very nature of the artwork, though sometimes truly artful, is that it does not communicate well because its point is hidden in its unreadability.

But the words upon the wall that this song speaks of are usually written clearly in gold lettering—and are truths to be treasured.

Words Upon The Wall

Music by Peter Link
Lyrics by Peter Link
Quotes by Mary Baker Eddy and from the Bible

I sit and ponder these words
Upon the wall
Burned into my memory
Throughout all these years
And the tears of a grateful heart
Fall through my life
As my joy springs forth
At the miracle of this humble simple truth

“Divine Love
always has met
and always will meet
every human need.”
That’s every human need
Words upon the wall
Words upon the wall

I sit and wonder what I would do
Without these words
These pure and simple certainties
That have carried me through
For the love that is in my heart
Fills up my life
And I stand here in awe
At the miracle of this humble simple truth

“Divine Love
always has met
and always will meet
every human need.”
That’s every human need

Words upon the wall
Calling out to me
Setting me free from my fears
Words upon the wall
Reassuring me
And setting me free through the years

Words upon the wall
“God is love”
Meeting all my needs
I stand in awe of these simple truths
These words upon the wall
