Remnants – Part 11

Living on the East Coast has its problems. Things are old here. The roads are old, the houses old, the facilities—like power systems, phone systems (telephone poles?), and shopping malls—all seem kinda old and decrepit after a recent trip to Northern California. There just seems to be a lot of things that we have to put up with here.

But one thing that we got that the West Coast can’t compare with is the change of seasons. Oh, how I love the change of seasons!

They say that as we get older, we all have a harder time with change, so I’m resisting that notion. I like to change—change my socks, change hats, change my toothpaste, change my breakfast cereal, change my schedules, change the color of each new car, change the plants in my house, change my thought, you know I could go on and on.

So, this next remnant of a lifetime is a song written again back in my 20s that talks about the need for change in our relationships. And, it uses the metaphor of weather to express this early life need of mine. At the time, I never knew then that I would change wives three times. :o)

This is a song that I sang for decades to an appreciative public, and yet I never got the opportunity to record it. I dug it out of the scrap bag a year ago and thought, “Hmm, here is a song that has stuck in the back of my mind for all these years.” I could remember every note and every chord of the song and when I picked up my guitar and played the accompaniment, my hands glided over the instrument effortlessly like it was 35 years ago. That had to tell me something.

I only changed one line of the song to clarify things a bit. (It was the line about the yearning that comes over me). It’s just a fun song to sing so it seemed an appropriate one for these later days.

By the way, I have no interest at all in changing wives anymore. The one I got now is a dandy … a keeper!

Another Rain Song

Music and Lyrics by Peter Link

Wish I was a painter
With my canvas in the sky
I’d paint the heavens and the sea
The color of your eyes
And then I’d paint a little rain
All around the blue
And in between the gray
I’d have the sun come shinin’ through

Rain rain we need a little rain
Everything’s goin’ down a little too plain
And we need a little change
So rain rain we need a little rain
I love to see the sun shine
But we need a little rain

Wish I had a lifetime
To settle down with you
Where dreams would follow dreams
And wishes could come true
Ah but I know too well
This yearning that comes over me
Just about the time I’m finally here
I’m movin’ on

Rain rain we need a little rain
Everything’s goin’ down a little too plain
And we need a little change
So rain rain rain rain we need a little rain
I love to see the sun shine
But we need a little rain

Rain rain we need a little rain
Cause every time life gets too much the same
We need a little change
So rain rain rain rain we need a little rain
I love to see the blue sky
But I love to feel the rain
I love to see the sun shine
But we need a little rain rain rain
