When the world outside becomes stormy and unpredictable, it can seem to dislodge our internal lives as well. But as the lyrics of Peace Be Still recount from the story of Jesus calming the sea in the Gospel of Mark, we need only to focus on God’s everlasting peace within us to calm what seems to be out of our control. Jesus himself was unaffected by the material indications of chaos, sleeping peacefully even as the boat rocked and the storm thundered, and only placated the waves when it was clear his disciples were too consumed with fear to help themselves. Julia Wade delivers this message clearly and powerfully, with the emotion and grace that listeners have come to expect. Off her thirteenth album Sunday Morning, it is one of the eleven songs composed by Peter Link contained therein, along with two other classics, all of which deal with spiritual themes.
