Lyrics

THE SOWER AND THE SEED (from Ps. 119 and Matt 13)
Lyrics by C. Kardinal

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Jesus saw a crowd on the shore. They expected him to teach them.
So he spoke one of his parables hoping he might reach them.

A sower went out to sow his seed and some fell along the way,
But it was devoured by the birds and nothing was left that day.
Some of the seed fell on a rock, but it soon withered away
Because no water was in the rock to nourish the seed where it lay.
Some fell among the thorns which sprang up and choked it,
But other fell on good ground and nothing could kill or cloak it.
It grew strong and hardy and produced a hundred fold
Of its own precious fruit that grew sweet, but never grew old.

The crowd was confused, and Jesus explained, so they might understand
And hoped the message would take root in the heart of every man.

God’s Word of Truth is the seed. Some hear it along the way,
But the devil takes it from them, lest they should believe and be saved.
Those on the rock, when they hear it, receive the Word with joy,
But temptation uproots the shallow seed, so it’s withered and destroyed.
The thorns of cares and riches and pleasures of this life
Can bring no fruit to perfection. They choke it with fear and strife.
But the good ground is the soil of those who plant within their hearts.
Their honesty and goodness guards the seed so it never departs.

These are the followers of the Word and all are of one mind.
They bring forth fruit to bless and heal mankind.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.(Ps.119)
