Daniel Burton was born in Chicago in 1944 and studied composition with Edwin LaBounty and Erle Moore. He holds the Bachelor of Music, the Master of Music and the Performer’s Certificate of the University, all from the University of Memphis. He was Instructor in Music at Harding University and Professor of Music and Artist in Residence at Arizona Western College before taking up fulltime performance and composition while based in California. He was Organist / Composer in Residence at the 4000-member First United Methodist Church of San Diego from 1973-2003, concertizing widely on organ, piano, harpsichord and harp until his retirement to Northern California. He continues to compose and play cello. Widely known as a composer of inspirational music in the classic tradition, his compositions are offered by some two dozen international publishers with works ranging from oratorios to vocal solos as well as instrumental preludes and solo pieces for organ, piano and harp.

Mr. Burton’s vocal solos are noted for fresh harmonies and melodies, as well as sensitive textual treatment.
