Ruth Elizabeth (Betty) Lambert began her music career at five when her grandfather began teaching her to play the piano. He was a fiddler who needed an accompanist so taught her to play chords on the rosewood square piano that had traveled around the horn to Washington state. Soon she began playing the top melody while her mother played the hymn. At seven she was featured in a local recital because of her ability to transpose her piece into any key requested.

“Betty” completed her formal training in music at the U of Washington, was soon married and busy raising a family in Redmond, Washington. Composing music to fit her moods and express her emotions, as well as playing, enriched her life. At times she was inspired by colors dancing through her mind, a thought, a poem, a Bible passage; at other times, she composed for her children (writing a ballet for her daughter’s dance class) and more recently for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her venture into composing sacred solos began early in her career, fueled by her deep and abiding faith, and continued to be a mainstay in her repertoire.

Carole

Carole Cloud Baldwin earned a degree in Voice Performance from the University of Oregon. She performs music in many languages from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, and Classical periods; art songs and opera; music with instruments from recorder and harpsichord to orchestra and dance bands. She especially loves the role of soloist in Christian Science churches on both coasts.

Audience and Press Reviews

  • “We were delighted to recently acquire and use one of the solos for which Ruth “Betty” Lambert had composed the music. The score was filled with delightfully unexpected moments, satisfying in its blend of quiet reverence with bright joy. (Compassion) We are planning to use another of her compositions this coming Sunday (Faith). I am glad to learn Watchfire Music is going to carry some of them for other churches to enjoy. Thank you Betty!”
