A Grateful Heart

Words adapted by Mindy Jostyn & Jacob Brackman
Based on a poem by Ethel Wasgatt Dennis
Music: traditional Irish melody

A grateful heart a garden is
Where there is always room
For every seed of innocence
To come to perfect bloom

A grateful heart a fortress is
A steady rugged tower
And all who dwell therein draw strength
From God’s almighty power

A grateful heart a temple is
A shrine so pure and white
Where angels guide us all day long
And watch us through the night

Our prayer is for one gift alone
Of all things grand or small:
The bounty of a grateful heart
That loves and blesses all

Simple Gifts
New lyrics by Peter Link
Music arranged by Peter Link and Margaret Dorn

˜Tis a gift to be simple
˜Tis a gift just to be
So alive here now seeing all there is to see
And hearing the music of this glorious earth
As each new moment springs to birth

˜Tis a gift to be grateful
For the Gifts we receive
For the faith we have and all that we believe
For the pure understanding of His radiant light
That illuminates the darkest night

God’s grace is really very plain
Like a baby’s breath or a morning rain
But there in the essence as the plan unfolds
Is the hand of God and the life He holds

[Key Change]

And it’s all very simple
And it’s all very wise
How the waving wheat turns to summer skies
And the stars know their places
In the vastness of space
In the allness of God’s embrace

God’s love is really very meek
There is no false pride
There is no mystique
Just a pure affection for the beauty of man
For the perfect child
For the perfect plan

[Clarinet Solo]

And the science of healing
And the powers of one mind
These are simple gifts blessing all mankind

‘Tis a gift to be simple

[Clarinet Answers]

˜Tis a gift just to be!

GRATEFUL

MUSIC AND LYRICS
BY
PETER LINK

I WAKE UP EVERY MORNING
AND I AM GRATEFUL
I’M ALIVE
AND EVERY TIME I COUNT MY BLESSINGS
I REALIZE THAT I AM HERE WITH YOU

AND WHEN EACH NIGHT
I TURN THE LIGHT DOWN
AND THANK YOU FOR MY LIFE
SOMETIMES IT IS THE ONLY WAY
I KNOW HOW TO PRAY
I’M GRATEFUL FOR THIS DAY

AND WHEN I DON’T REMEMBER
TO GIVE IT UP AND THANK YOU LORD
I LOSE A LITTLE LIFE PERSPECTIVE
AND DRIFT AROUND
TILL SENSE HAS BEEN RESTORED

AND WHEN THE SLINGS AND ARROWS
OF GREAT MISFORTUNE COME MY WAY
I TRY TO STOP AND COUNT MY BLESSINGS
AND JUST BE GRATEFUL
GRATEFUL EVERY DAY

FOR A HEART THAT BEATS
FOR THE BREATH THAT RISES
FOR A CHILD THAT SLEEPS
IN HIS MOTHER’S ARMS
FOR THE LOVE OF LIFE
GRATEFUL FOR THE WAY MY LIFE HAS TURNED
THANKFUL FOR THE LITTLE THINGS I’VE LEARNED
GRATEFUL FOR THE WISDOM OF THE WISE

I WAKE UP EVERY MORNING
AND I AM GRATEFUL
I’M ALIVE
AND EVERY TIME I COUNT MY BLESSINGS
I REALIZE THAT I AM HERE WITH YOU

AND WHEN THE SLINGS AND ARROWS
OF GREAT MISFORTUNE COME MY WAY
I TRY TO STOP AND COUNT MY BLESSINGS
AND JUST BE GRATEFUL
GRATEFUL EVERY DAY

The Promised Land

Music & Lyrics by Lew Doty

Sun peaks through my window
Morning greets the walls and floor
My eyes barely open
I smile as I hear my lover snore
And I gaze upon the bureau
Where the pictures of our children’s children stand
God has kept the promise
As we wander through
This promised land

Mornings at the lake
Where the turtles bask
And the heron fly
Laughing, singing in the car
Oh, you could never harmonize
And the things that seem most special
Are the things we’d never planned
God has kept the promise
As we wander through
This promised land

We had made a promise
Until death do us part
Oh, but this love lasts forever
Forever I will love you
Body, mind and heart

And the things that seem most special
Are the things we’d never planned
God has kept the promise
As we wander through
This promised land

The Gift
I Corinthians 12
Music and Lyrics by Peter Link

There are diversities of gifts
But the same spirit
There are differences of ministries
But the same lord
There are infinite activities
But it is the same god
The same god who works all in all

And to one is given the word of
Wisdom
To another the word of knowledge
To another a simple faith
To another the gift of healing
To another the working of miracles
To another the gift of prophecy

Yea though the gifts be many
The source be one
And the giving goes on endlessly
The giving’s never done

These gifts are god’s love in action
And it’s all for the healing of the
World

There are diversities of gifts
But the same giver
There are differences of ministries
But the same truth
There are infinite activities
But it is the same god
The same god who works all in all

And to one is given the gift of music
To another the gift of patience
To another an inner joy
To another the grace of movement
To another the gift of integrity
To so many a turn at motherhood

Yea though the gifts be many
The source be one
Yes the giving goes on endlessly
The giving’s never done

These gifts are god’s love in action
And it’s all for the healing of the
World

The Evidence Of Things Unseen
Mary Magdalene

Lyrics by Dora Redman & Peter Link
Music by Peter Link

And so he spoke
“They need not depart.
Give ye them food to eat.”
Give them food for thought,
The food of light,
The light of sustenance
Don’t send them away in their time of need
Feed the flock

But his disciples were not in the mind of Jesus
They struggled to raise their faith
And though miracles had abounded throughout the days
They were stuck in the world’s worn out ways

They knew not God’s law of infinite abundance
And I watched as they muttered amongst themselves hmm
“Feed them with what? There’s nothing to eat”
No apples, no almonds, no meat

Then a boy stepped forth
With a basket of bread and two fishes
Well you know the rest
The five thousand were fed
And we all saw the power of his wishes
And the evidence of things unseen
Oh yes the evidence of things unseen

You ask, “What is that evidence?”
It’s the substance of faith
And no seeming dreams that lie in between

There, by his prayer
Pulled out of thin air
In a miracle of such routine
(As I witnessed so often, again and again)
Was the evidence of things unseen
Yes, the evidence of things unseen

Yes a boy stepped forth
With the spirit of “Nothing can stop me”
A boy, just a boy
And five thousand were fed
And we all felt the power and the glory
Of the evidence of things unseen
Oh yes the evidence of things unseen

And right there, by his prayer
Pulled out of thin air
In a miracle of such routine
(As I witnessed so often, again and again)
Was the evidence of things unseen

The man
The miracle
The son of God
Hallelu!!!
And all this from two fishes
And five loaves of bread

Praise Ye The Lord
Text from Psalm 150
Music by Peter Link

Praise ye the Lord
Praise God in His sanctuary
Praise Him in the firmament of His power

Praise ye the Lord
Praise Him for His mighty acts
Praise Him according to His greatness

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet
Praise Him with the psaltry and the harp
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance
Praise Him with stringed instruments and organs

Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him upon the loud cymbals
Praise Him
Praise Him
Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals

Let everything that hath breath
Praise the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye the Lord

Praise ye the Lord
Praise ye with the sound of music
Raise up thy voice in song and praise Him

Shout out to the world a hallelujah

He’s Got the Whole World (In His Hand)
African-American Spiritual

Arranged and Orchestrated by Deborah Ann Offenhauser

Lyrics
He’s got the whole world in His hand,
He’s got the whole world in His hand,
He’s got the whole world in His hand,
He’s got the whole world in His hand.

He’s got the woods and the waters in His hand,
He’s got the woods and the waters in His hand,
He’s got the sun and the moon right in His hand,
He’s got the whole world in His hand.

He’s got the birds and the bees right in His hand,
He’s got the birds and the bees right in His hand,
He’s got the beasts of the field right in His hand,
He’s got the whole world in His hand.

He’s got you and me right in His hand,
He’s got you and me right in His hand,
He’s got everybody in His hand,

He’s got the whole world in His hand.
