Composer:
Adrienne Tindall
Lyricist:
Adrienne Tindall

Psalm 119 is a celebration! The Psalmist praises God’s law with eloquent veneration and love. The structural form of the psalm is an acrostic, built on the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Each section of eight verses is titled with the name of a Hebrew letter, and each verse of the section starts with that letter.

The song cycle, “Song of the Law,” includes Aleph, Beth, He, Zain, Jod, Mem, Nun - letters 1, 2, 6, 8, 11, 14, and 15 as spelled out in the Hebrew alphabet. The music of each solo follows a contrapuntal or compositional “law,” as described in the pdf of Aleph.

This song bundle also contains the songs: Hear O Israel, Love Never Fails, Psalm 23, Psalm 133, and Unto Thee O Lord.

Lyrics

Aleph (Blessed are the undefiled in the way)

Text: Psalm 119:1-7 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are they that keep His testimonies,
And that seek Him with the whole heart.
They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.

Thou hast commanded us to keep Thy commandments faithfully.
O, that my ways were directed to keep all thy statutes!
Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all Thy
commandments.
I will praise Thee with uprightness of heart,
When I shall have learned Thy righteous judgments.

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord!

Beth (With my whole heart have I sought Thee)

Text: Psalm 119:10-13, 15 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

With my whole heart have I sought Thee:
Let me not wander, Oh let me not wander from Thy commandments!
Thy Word have I kept in my heart, so that I might not sin against Thee.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord: teach me Thy statutes!
With my lips have I declared all the judgments of Thy mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, as much as in all riches!

I will meditate in Thy precepts and have respect,
And have respect unto Thy ways.

He (Teach me, O Lord, the way of Thy statutes)

Text: Psalm 119:33-36, 38, 40 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Teach me, O Lord, the way of Thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep Thy law.
Make me to go in the path of Thy commandments,
For therein do I delight!

Incline my heart unto Thy law, and not to covetousness,
Stablish Thy Word unto Thy servant!
I have longed for Thy precepts, and Thy righteousness,
Thy righteousness!

Zain (Remember Thy Word unto Thy servant)

Text: Psalm 119:49-52; 54-55 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Remember Thy Word unto Thy servant,
Upon which Thou hast caused me to hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction:
Thy word hath quickened me!

The proud have had me greatly in derision:
Yet have I not declined from Thy law.
I remembered Thy judgments of old, Oh Lord,
And have comforted myself.

Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.
I have remembered Thy name, Oh Lord, in the night,
And I have kept Thy law;
And I have kept Thy law.

Jod (Thy hands have made me and fashioned me)

Text: Psalm 119:73-74; 76-77, 80 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me;
Give me understanding, that I may learn Thy commandments!

They that fear Thee will be glad when they see me,
Because I have hoped in Thy Word.

Let, I pray Thee, Thy merciful kindness be for my comfort,
According to Thy Word unto Thy servant.

Let Thy tender mercies come unto me that I may live,
For Thy law is my delight!

Let my heart be sound in Thy statutes,
That I be not ashamed;
That I be not ashamed.

Mem (Oh, how I love Thy law!)

Text: Psalm 119:97, 99, 101-103 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Oh, how I love thy law!
It is my meditation all the day!
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Thy testimonies are my meditation.

I have refrained my feet from every evil way
That I might keep Thy Word!
I have not departed from Thy judgments: for Thou hast taught me.

How sweet are Thy words unto my taste!
Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Nun (Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet)

Text: Psalm 119:105-106; 110-112 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet,
And a light unto my path.
I have sworn, and I will perfrom it,
That I will keep thy righteous judgments.

Accept, I beseech Thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, O Lord,
And teach me Thy judgments!

The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from Thy precepts!

Thy testimonies have I taken for an heritage forever!
I have inclined my heart to perform Thy statutes alway,
Even unto the end;
Even unto the end.

Hear, O Israel

Text: Deut. 6:4,5; Ps. 8:3-9 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
And with all thy soul, and with all thy might!

When I consider Thy heavens, the works of Thy fingers, the moon and the
stars,
Which Thou hast ordained;
What is man, that Thou art mindful of him?
And the son of man, that Thou visitest him?

For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, (when I consider. . .)
And hast crowned him with glory and honour!

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands;
Thou hast put all things under his feet: all sheep and oxen, and the beasts of
the field;
(When I consider. . .)

The beasts of the field, the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea,
And whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. (When I consider!)

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth!

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
And with all thy soul, and with all thy might!

Love Never Fails

Text: Adapted from I Cor. 13:4-8, 13
Music: Adrienne Tindall

And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three,
And the greatest of these is love.

Love is well mannered, and patient.
Love is generous, humble and kind.
Love is never envious,
Nor quick to take offense,
Does not insist on its own way;
Love does not rejoice in wrong,
But rejoices in the right!

Love bears all things, believes all things,
Hopes all things, endures all things;
Love never fails! Love never fails!

And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three;
And the greatest of these is love.

Psalm 23

Text: Scottish Psalter version, 1650
Music: Adrienne Tindall

The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want;
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by,
He leadeth me, He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
E’en for His own name’s sake,
Within the paths of righteousness,
E’en for His own name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff me comfort still.

My table Thou hast furnished
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in God’s house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be.
And in God’s house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be!

Psalm 133

Text: Psalm 133, paraphrase Adrienne Tindall
Music: Adrienne Tindall

How good and how pleasant it is
When the children of God
Dwell together in love and unity!

How pleasant and good it is!
Like the dews of the morn
when they kiss every flow’r so tenderly!

How good and how pleasant it is!
Like the ointment of grace
Which abundantly pours its loveliness!

How good and how pleasant it is
When each heart opens wide
To embrace all the world in Christliness!

And the children of God
Dwell together in love and unity!
In unity!

Unto Thee, O Lord

Text: Psalm 24:3-4; Psalm 25:4-9, 20 (KJV)
Music: Adrienne Tindall

Who shall ascend unto the hill of the Lord?
Or who shall stand in His holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;
Who hath not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
Show me thy ways, O Lord, teach me Thy paths.
Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me,
For Thou art the God of my salvation.
On Thee, on Thee do I wait all the day.

Remember, O Lord, Thy tender mercies and Thy lovingkindness,
For they have been ever of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions!
According to Thy mercy remember Thou me,
For Thy goodness’ sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord:
Therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
The meek will He guide in judgment, and the meek will He teach His way.

O keep my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be ashamed;
For I put my trust in Thee.

Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul!
