Lyrics
The other side of the road
Text: Jon Pourroy,
adapted by Arlene Pourroy
based on the parable of the Good Samaritan
Composer: Jon Pourroy
arranged by Arlene Pourroy
He needs a kindly neighbor, this man by the side of the road
He is hurt and down and all alone and a long long way from home
Here comes that way a priest
Careful for his ritual robes
He takes one look and turns away
To the other side of the road
Here comes that way a Levite
Busy with his job, his pride
Not my work, he says, and on he goes
To the other side passing by
It’s still a man there wounded on the other side of the road
He needs a friend or neighbor when he’s a long long way from home
Here comes that way a Samaritan
His tribe not the chosen one
Yet he helps the man and binds his wounds
Just like he would for a son
O see the healing oil and wine
Of kindly mercy flow
When a stranger stops to help a man
On the other side of the road
So on your daily journey it’s the way that Jesus told
Just reach on out and lend a hand on either side of the road
O see the healing oil and wine of kindly mercy flow
When a stranger stops to help a man on the other side of the road.
