David Wise has been called “a soloist’s composer.” By placing the text and its phrasing at the forefront, he then wraps the music around them to carry the message to the audience in a melodic and memorable way.
Although a chief financial officer by profession, he has been a musician almost all of his life, beginning at the age of 4 when he started taking piano lessons. From the age of nine through high school, he sang in a boys choir which regularly toured the country. Later he sang in his college’s touring chorus. It was his skill at the piano, however, that helped him earn his way through college as he accompanied voice majors in their rehearsals and public recitals.
For the past 30 years he has been accompanying his wife as she rehearsed for her job as a Christian Science soloist. Consequently, he has played practically all of the traditional and more contemporary solos suitable for the Christian Science service. A few years ago, when his wife noted that she wanted something fresh to sing, David began writing solos for her incorporating both the traditional and contemporary genres. He decided recently to publish his collection of compositions to date – to the delight of grateful soloists in the field.
