Jim E. Barnes graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in composition and piano; he also holds an MBA from Pepperdine University. He played piano with large dance bands and small combos all through college and wrote 4-part male vocal arrangements in the then-popular Four Freshman style. He served over twenty years with the government before forming his own hotel consulting company, which he still heads.
In addition to having served in various leadership capacities as well as being a soloist, Jim is currently coordinator of the church’s Music Committee. Selecting solos based on scriptural selections in each week’s Bible Lesson, he has found many opportunities to add to the existing music library. In collaboration with Susan Lindquist, eight solos have been completed, and they have plans for many more.
Courtesy of Jim’s jazz background these solos have fresh and innovative harmonies, a departure from the traditional fare, coupled with lovely and accessible melodies.
