That Distant Horizon

Tell us your stories,
The woes of your life—
Of hardship and toil and pain.
Bring us your tales
Full of failure and strife.
Release all your burdens and shame.

Your prayers haven’t worked,
And your mind’s full of doubt,
And your struggles have all been in vain.
You’ve given up hope
And your faith has run out.
Still, you long to be whole once again.

All you who are heavily laden
Let go of your grief and despair.
Soon you’ll be free from oppression, you’ll see
These are challenges everyone shares.

If we bear one another’s burdens—
Help our sisters and brothers along.
We can travel the road sharing our load
Through the twilight and into the dawn.

Oh, help us to help each other, Lord.
Let us walk hand-in-hand down the road.
Till we see the dawn on that distant horizon,
And the power of Love lifts our soul,
And we rise up,
Oh, we rise up
Healthy and whole.

So, if you’re feeling unheard—
No one lends you an ear,
Or a shoulder on which you can cry.
You thought you were strong,
But you’re riven with fear
And all you can do is ask, “Why?”

Come unto me you heavy laden
And I will give you rest.
Soon you’ll be free from oppression—you’ll see—
When the smoke clears
You will be blessed.
