The Bread of Life
Music by: W.B. Olds
Text from St. John 6

They said therefore unto Him:
What sign showest Thou, that we may see and believe Thee?
Our fathers did eat manna in the dessert;
As it was written:
He gave them bread from heav’n to eat.
Jesus said unto them:
Verily, I say to you,
Moses you not that bread from heaven;
But my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven,
And giveth life unto the world.
Then said they unto Him:
Lord, evermore give us this bread.
And Jesus said to them:
I am the bread of life,
He that cometh to Me shall never hunger;
And he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.
The Jews then murmured at Him, because he said:
I am the bread which came down from heaven.
Jesus answered said to them:
Murmur not among yourselves.
Verily, I say to you, he that believeth on Me,
Hath everlasting life, hath everlasting life.
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead, and are dead!
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven,
That a man may eat thereof, and not die.
Lord, evermore give us this bread,
That we may eat and live,
The living bread from heav’n send down,
Which Thou alone canst give.
Thou hast promised everlasting life to all who will believe.
To Thee we come, O bread of life,
That we may life receive.
