Thoughts on “Con Alare” from Jay Holcomb Frost

“Con Alare” captures the essence of my approach, nearly two decades in the making, to playing piano for church services.
It is an approach that informs my musical selections for the entire service, from the contemplative backdrop that the opening musical selection provides as congregants enter and prepare their thought for the inspired message of the service to the joyful celebration of the closing voluntary which serves to send the congregation forth to let their “light so shine before men” (Matt. 5:16).
“One word: Awe! Awesome! Awe-inspiring! And, yes, I am awestruck. Thanks so much for your dedication and love that can be felt through your music.” ~ Jennifer Johnson, Kent, WA

“Meaning ‘With Wings’ IN ITALIAN, if you encounter the expression “Con Alare” on sheet music you would do well to interpret that the piece is intended to be played “with an uplifting, soaring quality.” However, coming across this marking would be rather unlikely, since I invented it myself!”
