In these evocative arrangements, Ron Di Salvio has made the implicit, explicit. Taking traditional hymn tunes and embedding them in selections from classical music, Mr. Di Salvio’s arrangements reflexively inform both the hymn and the classical composition, infusing them with a nuance that mutually informs each and then takes them both to new levels of expression. Harmonic underpinning’s of the hymn tunes become realized as if the classical composers had these hymns in mind as they wrote, while his extrapolations of the classical pieces give expression to the deeper meaning of the words for which the hymn tune was a vehicle. Synthesis becomes transformation, insight, vision. Morning Has Broken not only signals the theme of resurrection and faith, but juxtaposes human artistic aspiration with divine inspiration.
