This is a fresh perspective on the classic tale of the Prodigal Son, as Joseph's brother deals with his father’s actions. A powerful and memorable story.

Lyrics

A Father’s Love
Words and Music by Dinah Satterwhite

I loved my younger brother Joseph well
But he desired more than I could tell
For one day he asked my father for his portion of goods
And left our family without a word

I wondered
Brother tell me where are you?
Living well or lost in this big world?
While I remain to work the land
Serving father well
Are you alive or dead
Oh pray tell

A mighty famine spread from land to sea
My brother’s fortune spent his pockets empty
So then he traveled home and as he reached our fields
Father saw his face and welcomed him
But Joseph cried these words:

“Father I have sinned
Against heaven and in thy sight
And am not worthy to be called your son”
But father said “My son was dead, and is alive again, Rejoice!”

The servants brought a robe, a ring, and shoes for his feet
And all made merry and began to sing
I’d been hard at work and asked why music played
When they told me I was angered, and refused to go in

I wondered
Brother tell me where were you?
Living well or lost in this big world?
While I remain to work the land
Serving father well
Were you alive or dead
Oh pray tell

Then father took my hand and said “my son
I love you with all that I have and all I have is thine
Remember he was lost and now is found”
I thought about my angry jealous heart
Could I Iet go and embrace these words divine?

We went into the house and soon Joseph’s eyes met mine
I knew I loved my brother and my heart could see the light
My brother has come home, he was lost and is found

Father
Life
Love
We are home
