Says Peter Link:

Podcasting — The evolution of the musical is upon us.

It’s time for new works. Scattershot Symphony will now evolve from the past, to the present and into the future. It’s inevitable. So here we are at the cutting edge of 21st century musicals – the musical podcast.

Today we offer a preview, actually, a better word for that would be a prelisten, to songs from a musical of one of the greatest classics of the theater:

Euripedes’ Iphigenia In Aulis

It’s an ancient Greek story, but it resonates with today’s world completely in that it is the story of a war begun with no purpose except to please a deranged leader’s egotistical wishes.

  1. Like you Peter, I listened to The Shadow Knows, glued to the radio, totally along for the ride. It didn’t matter that there was no TV screen to look at. The entertainment was rich and enrapturing. One can only image what prompted Euripides to write Iphigenia, perhaps a taste for high drama. Such a tragic tale! Euripides could never have foretold how it would restate today! I enjoyed stepping into your Theater of the Imagination, listening to Episode #22. Your choice to bring twelve of the most talented and amazing women together to play Iphigenia is in your usual style to bring before its time, an innovative approach to bear, is well done! Here is a list of that amazing cast and the twelve women who played Iphigenia from the 1971 production. Nell Carter, Margaret Dorn, Leata Galloway, Bonnie Guidry, Patricia Hawkins, Marta Heflin, Lynda Lee Lawley, Andrea Marcovicci, Julienne Marshall, Pamela Pentony, Marion Ramsey, Sharon Redd. Madge Sinclair as Clytemestra and Manu Tupou as Agamemnon. Wow, What a treat to have it retold today!

    1. Thanks, Jenny for listing the original cast of Iphigenia in the first iteration back in the 70s at the Public Theater in NYC. Also Tommy Lee Jones played Achilles in that cast. — Peter Link
