Simon Clark

Simon Clark is a British based composer, organist and pianist. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London and now divides his time between composing and playing the organ at many churches of several denominations in London.

Simon is an in-house composer for his UK publisher, Kevin Mayhew Ltd, for whom he produces music for the sacred choral and organ repertoire. As well as writing sacred solos and inspirational piano music, Simon is a composer of orchestral music and has written a number of large scale works including symphonies and concertos.

Amy Duncan

Over the years, three things have stood out in my musical persona: one is the fact that I am mostly self-taught, another is that I have almost always been leader of my own groups, and yet another is my penchant for mixing the music of other world cultures with jazz.

I guess, even though I was mostly unaware of it when I was younger, I’ve always believed that originality and style are not things that we can be taught or even learn from other musicians. In leading my own groups, I felt I was more open to the source, which I believe is transcendental, not personal. I felt this the most strongly when I wrote the first arrangements for my band, Brass Tacks.

I worked non-stop and would stack up what I had written on top of the piano late at night before retiring. The next day I would have the strangest sensation that I hadn’t written them at all. It was as if little elves had crept in as I slept and done the work—I could almost see the tiny footprints they left on the piano as they scampered off into the night…
